Joseph A. Whalen, Executive Director (1996 – Present) Joe became the Executive Director in October 1996. Under his leadership, Green Chimneys has seen major expansion of facilities at its main campus located in Brewster, NY. A $50+ million capital investment and renovation plan included a new Green Chimneys School building, a 24-hour Health & Wellness Center, Facilities & Support Services building with warehouse capability, a new barn for the Farm & Wildlife Rehabilitation Center and most recently, the completion of state-of-the-art living units housing 88 students and a 250 student Special Education K-12 school on two campuses, and 350 farm and wildlife animals…even llamas and camels! Joe has Masters Degree in Special Education from Western Connecticut State University College and an MBA from the University of New Haven. He completed his educational administrative certification from Fordham University, completed executive training at the Institute for Not-for-Profit Management at Columbia University, and attended Harvard University's School of Business for Strategic Prospective in Not-for-Profit management.
